Open Swim

by Kelsey Lockhart

My series, Open Swim, is about swimming pools and their many aspects. Swimming and the act of being in water itself can encompass so many forms. From racing, to diving, to lounging on a float - swimming can be exercise or relaxation. You can splash around in a pool with friends, or do complex aerial maneuvers into the water from high above. It provides a matrix for competition, and paves the way for friendships to be made. It can be done in the vast blue ocean against rolling waves, or a chlorinated pool, where the water is still as glass. All you need is yourself and H2O, though the experience can be enhanced with various tools of the trade. There are devices to help those learning their firsts strokes, and precision instruments to measure the speeds of others to the microsecond. My goal was to capture, in an interesting and entertaining visual manner, all of the aspects that make this activity one of my life long passions.

Birds of the Americas

by Eduardo del Solar

Owl-Eduardo del Solar

I have been growing as a photographer through the projects I am involved. From December 2005 to December 2006 I engaged in a one year project at the Boston Nature Center, my local Audubon site, with the goal of photographing the bird and insect species at that sanctuary. In 2007 I became engaged in a three to five year Birds of the Americas  project, a project that has taken me to places like Peru, Costa Rica, Galapagos, Canada, Iceland, the Southwest and New England.

In 2011 I started a project with Goldenrod, an environmental agency at Plymouth Long Beach with the goal to photograph the seasons through an entire year.

Arizona Below

Presence is what is needed to become aware of beauty and sacredness in nature. To understand presence is simply to be present. Photography is one way that I am able to experience the moment, suspend time and re-connect with being. With this work, it’s my hope to create an intimate conversation that takes the viewer to a place of quiet contemplation.

'Scapes

by Mary Jodoin

‘Scapes is a culmination of different settings: Fire escapes, cityscapes, and urban or country landscapes.  It is also a state of mind: “I need to escape from or to someplace. “ or “I need to keep moving.”  It could be a physical location or a peaceful memory.  Each photograph may mean something different from one person to another.  It is also a way for the photographer to escape into their work.

‘Scapes, for me, is a way to demonstrate the hustle and bustle of ever day life from a “moving target” perspective.  I’m either walking or in a moving car. Blurred images connote movement and action.  Odd angles or blurriness could be perceived as imperfections but it is an opportunity for me to focus attention on the smaller details of street life.
